She had woken. A terrible pain all over her body, but especially on her head. In her haste to find shelter for the night she had overlooked a tree branch. She had hit it full on with her head and was thrown of her horse. Then nothing for a long period. Then she had seen a face of an older woman that had put the horse blanket over her and just had said: “Wait here”. The nothing again, even for a longer period. Then a man had come to pick her up and carry her to a farm. The man smelled after a mixture of sweat, straw and cow dung. He was of her age but he had a fresh and horrifying scar on his face. Even a small part of his scalp was missing. The man had said nothing at all, but by the way he had carried her she felt that this was a man of good intentions. She had passed out again.

Now she sat in a cosy kitchen. The warmth of the sun behind the glass did her good. The tea she got from the older woman was strong but of good taste. She had noticed the children’s chairs and she had heard children play. The floor was worn but she still could see the nice red and green colours of the tiles.

The man had entered the kitchen. “Mornin’ lass!” he said. “Took you some time to come ‘round. Three days no less!” She gave the man a good look. He was huge! He had hands like shovels and his arms were heavy but sinewy at the same time. His face was rather ugly with that scar, but not in a disgusting way. It made her curious how it would feel when she touched it. Behind that scar were two very bright and friendly eyes though. It confused her. Despite that scar and that rough appearance she felt strongly attracted to the man. She pushed that thought away quickly: “You are engaged, mind you!” Fortunately the man said: “I’ll be off now. Missy here will take good care of you.”

And just as sudden as he had entered the kitchen he had left it. She looked at the older woman and was amused to see a little blush: “Ralph does that to me every time. I was maid on this farm long before he was born. My name is Agnes.” “Pleased to meet you Agnes, I am Felicia.”

bigfarmer: Thank you Mariacarmen. I won't leave you and a follow up will come soon. The pictures I used were from an archive but the newer pictures (of the parts stille to come) are taking rather a lot of time. Recently I was out at night for a picture for this story but it was very cold and windy that night, making it very hard to you a longer shutter time. Anyway, I will post a follow up soon.
