Looks like one of the cats brought a new play thing home!!!! I managed to let it out the window but it flew to a small apple tree in the garden. Apparently Woodpeckers are not used to flying at night and can be disorientated. Hope it stays out of harms way until daylight.

karin :): poor thing. I hope it survives

stroppirob: I did think about keeping it safe in a cardboard box overnight to make sure it's ok. But it's a woodpecker... I don't think it would take long for it to get out of one of those ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

stroppirob: It was amazing to see a woodpecker up so close as they are very shy but he had a very lucky escape from my cats ๐Ÿ˜Š

mariacarmen: Aww, poor creature๐Ÿ˜ฎIt seems that he is totally paralyzed๐Ÿ˜จ

Posted: 2018 Jan 23 7:40:36 AM

stroppirob: Ha ha that could have been because of me getting too close and the firing of the flash on my phone several times to try and get a good shot. With me and the cats it's amazing he didn't for of fright ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

stroppirob: It's unusual to get so close to a woodpecker as they are very shy birds. I had a good look around the garden this morning but could not find him so i hope he flew off and is ok ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜Š

hogman72664 or david: Thanks for caring and sharing this beautiful bird. You definitely did the best thing releasing it, birds do tend to stress if confined and quite often die of it

hogman72664 or david: Quite a cat you've got , that is a hell of a feat to catch a woodpecker.

karin :): brave woodpecker !! a hero in pecker country

stroppirob: Longleat forest is two or three miles away but i guess at this time of year with food being scarce they'll take the risk of coming closer to houses humans and cats in their search for food. No sign of him this morning so I hope he flew off ok ๐Ÿ˜Š
