This is the magnificent Ankole . They are named after the Ankole Watusi tribe that domesticated them for meat, milk and blood. They are believed to be a cross between two types of cattle that migrated to East Africa about 1000 BC. This fellow weighs in at just under 700kg (110 stone). Their owners quite often bleed them to consume their blood mixed with their milk as a high source of protein. It doesn't sound pleasant to me but I'm assured that it doesn't bother them in any way. They are also highly defensive animals, aware that they can't fend off lions etc , they sleep in an outward facing circle , adults on the outside and the weak and young at the centre. This makes them so special to me as they have an inbuilt desire to look after their vulnerable, something we could all learn from. #SMFC #Minion's choice #Ankole #caring

hogman72664: Thank you Daniel, it really made my day to read this comment. I worked hard on the edit, but this guy deserves my best. This will probably be my last appearance for a while as my wife is having her operations today (hopefully). Take care :):)

hogman72664: Thank you again Michelle. This was taken at Lowestoft again , the same zoo as had the bat eared fox. Sounds like you will have to make it this way after all. Two animals you've never heard of in one zoo. They are beautiful and gentle giants. I love them but as you have pointed out before I love all animals :):)xx
